Homemade Muffins

I know this is not "technically" a craft, but they were so yummy I had to share them.

Chocolate Chip Muffins

1 cup wheat flour
1 cup white flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
1 cup milk
1/3 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla

Directions

In a large bowl, combine the first four ingredients.  In a small bowl, beat egg, milk
and oil.  Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.  Fold in chocolate chips.

Fill greased or paper-lined muffin cups three-fourths full.  Bake at 400 degrees for
18 - 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.     Yield - 1 dozen.

Blueberry Muffins

3/4 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup wheat flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
1/2-3/4 cup of milk
1 cup fresh strawberries or thawed frozen blueberries

Topping

1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/4 cup butter, cubed (not too cold)
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees, grease muffin papers or tins.

Combine 1 1/2 cups of flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt and baking powder.  Place vegetable oil into a 1 cup measuring cup; add the egg and the 1/2 cup of milk.  Mix this with flour mixture.  Fold in blueberries.  Fill muffin cups right to the top, and sprinkle with crumb topping mixture.

To make crumb topping: Mix together the 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/3 cup of flour, 1/4 cup cubed butter and 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon and mix with a fork until crumbly and sprinkle over muffins before you bake.

Bake for 20-25 min. at 400 until toothpick comes out clean. yield - 1 dozen

Good luck and happy eating :-) mmmm

Decorative Hook

I was at a store a couple of years ago and saw these nifty knobs that someone had made into like a hook that hangs on the wall....I wanted one in a bad way. I looked at the price they were charging and how much I didn't want to pay "said" price and decided that I could make it for much cheaper with my husbands help.  Some of you more handy ladies might be able to pull this off by yourselves.  let me just say, that the way he attached it to the wall....I don't know if it will ever come off. :-)

So we bought a piece of crown moulding...I actually think that it was a sample piece of crown moulding that was maybe $2 or something like that.  We then found a glass doorknob.  I think we bought ours new, but I know I've seen them at garage sales and antique shops.

First you may need to stain the piece of moulding and put a picture hook or whatever you're going to use to attach it to the wall.  (I think what we used was a screw that screws into the wood and then "hubby" put an anchor in the wall and screwed it into the anchor).   You then attach the door knob to the moulding and hang it up....

I use mine to hang my aprons on. :-)

Fall Acorn Mirror

Well, sorry I have been away so long.

I have a fun craft that even the kids can get in on....

First take a nice walk under some oak trees and collect some acorn caps.  I love this part of the craft because I love taking walks in the fall and hearing the twigs and acorns crunch under my feet.  :-)
Try to get them close to the same size.

I went to a thrift store and found a nice size mirror with a flat, wide wooden frame (flat frame works the best)   and then start hot gluing the acorn caps onto the frame.  I did two rows, but you can do as many as fit around the edge of the mirror.  I would lay them out on the frame before you start gluing just to make sure you have them laid in a way that they are going to fit.

good luck and have fun on your walk  :-)
